The Mill District, Minneapolis (Downtown East)
The Mill District, Minneapolis (also known as Downtown East) is re-emerging as the city's historical and cultural epicenter. The legendary flour mills which once dominated the St. Anthony Falls, have been given new life as many of the original buildings have been converted into elegant homes, and slick office space.
Many of the historic buildings have transformed into cultural attractions with the Mill City Museum, Guthrie Theater, and MacPhail Center for Music, all taking up shop in the Mill District. This area is about to undergo a major urban redevelopment with plans to add high-rise office buildings, retail space, residential buildings, and a park. This new construction is scheduled to be completed by the usmmer of 2016.
