North Loop Minneapolis: Buildings, Restaurants, Trails & Lifestyle Guide (2026)
Once known as the historic Warehouse District, the North Loop evolved in the early 2000s as residential conversions accelerated and new construction towers entered the skyline. Today, it is Minneapolis’ most dynamic urban neighborhood — blending brick-and-timber loft buildings with luxury high-rises, walkability, and immediate riverfront access. If you are looking for a townhome, the Landings and Renaissance on the river sit right on the riverfront as well.
If you're exploring North Loop condos for sale, this guide breaks down the buildings, amenities, dining, fitness, and lifestyle drivers that define the neighborhood.
Signature Condo & Loft Buildings in North Loop
Tower Lofts
One of the earlier residential conversions, Tower Lofts offers classic brick and concrete with authentic warehouse character. The developer, Chuck Leer did the 801 Washington building prior to this development and the goal was to create a very authentic warehouse style loft. Amenities of this building will be a great rooftop deck, underground, heated parking, and access to a ton of commercial options. DRG office is out of the ground floor of the building. There are also some live work spaces on the second floor of the building otherwise all residential. Sitting directly across from Free House and fragment coffee, along with a number of other food haul options you are all set. This option is literally in the heart of the north loop and very walkable to lots of commerce options.
5th Avenue Lofts
Located near Target Field, 5th Avenue Lofts features larger floorplans and strong proximity to transit and stadium events. This is going to be a nice blend between a traditional condo and slightly lofty with taller ceilings, concrete pillars, but conventional layouts. Building inventory will have a blend of things that are pretty original to the build and completely renovated. Floorplans tend to be more long and linear unless on a corner. This is a popular relatively boutique building that is connected to the security, lofts and shares some amenities. Room and balcony with grilling area along with a nice community room.
RiverStation
RiverStation sits near the Mississippi River and offers a mix of townhome-style units and condo layouts. Its position near river trails makes it attractive for buyers prioritizing outdoor access.
These buildings complement modern towers in the area and contribute to the diverse housing stock that defines North Loop living. The first floor of the building is going to be exclusively two level units that are going to feel a little bit like a townhome. On the third floor of the building, they will all be one level and then on the fourth floor you will get a blend of two level units and one level units. Price and desirability can partially fall on whether it faces another building, the green space or even catches a little bit of a downtown view. If you're a pet owner, the first floor is the most friendly allowing a dog. A cat is acceptable and the rest of the building. No amenities to the building outside of the green space courtyard areas. The amenities of this particular development really are the neighborhood. This is a great entry price point for two bedroom units which most of the building is. There are some one plus den floorplan on the first floor.
Riverfront Access, Parks & Trails
One of North Loop’s strongest lifestyle advantages is immediate access to the Mississippi River trail system. Residents can bike south toward the Mill District or connect west to the Cedar Lake Trail. I've personally ridden my bike from the north Loop all the way out to Excelsior on Lake Minnetonka for coffee and back. The trail systems are incredible.
- Direct access to riverfront biking and walking trails
- Dog Park
- North Loop Park — a central green space ideal for families
- Easy stroll to Boom Island Park across the river
For parents, North Loop Park offers playground space, turf areas, and community events throughout the year.
Dining: Top Restaurants in North Loop
This list will be sort of endless and constantly rotating. Here are a few of my favorites, but there is a lot more to explore. If you like sushi, for instance Billy Sushi is amazing and if you're just looking for a quick grab and go Sweet Greens and Crisp and Green are great options.
Top Coffee Shops
The density of restaurants and coffee shops is one of the strongest differentiators compared to other Minneapolis neighborhoods. Lots more to explore like corner coffee that has been in that neighborhood since the beginning along with being at church on the weekends.
Fitness & Wellness
The Bouldering Project, located in the North Loop area, provides climbing, yoga, and strength training — adding to the neighborhood’s active culture. The list doesn't end here and also includes establishments like North Loop Fitness and Barry's.
Shopping & Boutiques
Here are just a few, but the list here is pretty extensive and again always changing. This is an awesome walking neighborhood where you can run into a boutique or a restaurant consistently.
Pet-Friendly Living
North Loop is widely regarded as one of the most pet-friendly neighborhoods in Minneapolis. In addition to the facilities listed above, Downtown Dogs has been there for a very long time so if you do have a pet, there's lots of businesses to support you. Most of the buildings that were built after 2000 are going to be pet friendly to some extent. Some of the older towers are going to be a little more restrictive and you will just need to lean on your agent to identify which buildings fit your pet profile.
Entertainment & Transit
North Loop sits adjacent to Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins. Light rail access at Target Field Station connects residents to the airport and both downtown corridors.
The Fillmore Minneapolis hosts concerts and events year-round. Upcoming events may include:
- National touring music acts
- Comedian headliners
- Indie and alternative concert series
Why North Loop Continues to Lead
North Loop blends:
- Historic warehouse architecture
- Luxury condo development
- Riverfront access
- Restaurant density
- Transit connectivity
Few neighborhoods in Minneapolis offer this combination of walkability, lifestyle, and investment stability.
