Two Minneapolis units were combined into one, creating a custom designer condo with dramatic downtown views. You can have it for $2.5 million.    "In the kitchen, dark wood cabinets are a contrast to light marble countertops and upscale commercial-grade appliances, such as a Subzero refrigerator and Wolf range. Flesher custom-designed the globe pendant light fixture above the island. The expansive condo also has a TV/media room, den, guest quarters and a climate-controlled 500-bottle wine room. An office with built-in bookcases also doubles as a playroom for Jan and Ralph’s grandkids. There are two balconies — one for grilling and the other for watching storms approaching from the west."

The owner of the Northstar Center in downtown Minneapolis is seeking investors to convert part of the aged office property into a 266-unit apartment tower. An affiliate of Triple Net Properties, based in California, hired BKV Architects to draw up a vision for the 313,000 square-foot east building of the three-building Northstar complex. It hired the Minneapolis-St. Paul office of Colliers International to market the plan to developers. “Sometimes not everyone has the vision,” said Julie Lux, a senior associate with the multifamily group at Colliers in Minneapolis. “The seller has positioned this with the initial floor plans so buyers can imagine the conversion.” It’s part of a larger trend of transitioning older, dated office buildings — which the…

Streets.mn and The Line share content to further conversations on land use and transportation in MSP. Time doesn’t stand still for the Twin Cities skyline, nor for our distinctive neighborhoods. Back around 1000 BCE, the Woodland people built the first monuments in town; now most of those great burial mounds are gone. A few thousand years later, an entrepreneur dammed the Mississippi River at St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis; that collapsed and got a re-do. The Metropolitan Building: Gone.…

The news that Twin Cities nightlife mavens have been dreading for months arrived Friday afternoon: Nye’s Polonaise Room has announced its firm closing date, April 3. Originally slated to close last summer, the popular post-World War II supper club in northeast Minneapolis got a temporary reprieve from the wrecking ball as plans to replace it with a 29-story apartment tower were scaled back to a six-story building after neighborhood groups and the Heritage Preservation Commission got involved. Friday afternoon, the Minneapolis City Council approved an appeal for two design elements flagged by the preservation…

Lux decides 40-story tower at Washburn-McReavy site should be condos

Posted by Mike Seebinger Realtor at DRG on Tuesday, January 19, 2016

Minneapolis is on the cusp of getting its third major condo project since the recession. Developer Bob Lux said Tuesday that he will build a 40-story tower with 207 condominiums in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood just across the river from downtown Minneapolis. The decision comes after months of speculation about whether Lux would build apartments or condos on the site at 200 Central Av., now the location for a Washburn-McReavy funeral home. “We recognize that condominium homes are more difficult to construct and that the site would accommodate apartments nicely,” Lux said. “But city leaders…

This time of year, if a seller has not sold their home, they will typically withdraw it from the market. Activity is often slower than normal between now and the first week of January. Many sellers also want a break from showings, the pressure of keeping their home clean, and feeling like they are always on.

But for the serious seller or buyer, deals still happen between now and early January. If you’re a seller who means business, know that buyers are out there through the holidays. If you’re a buyer on a mission, pound the pavement to find the most motivated sellers, and try to make a holiday miracle happen.

Tips for sellers

Significant cosmetic changes are in store for the Sex World building in Minneapolis, with a new owner hoping to give the weary old structure — and the street corner it occupies — a new attitude.
